Home > Local Talent > Nick StikaProfile :: Nick StikaVisit Website Nick knew at an early age that music would play a big role in his life. The son of musical parents, there was always plenty of music in the house he grew up in. His father, a guitar player in several rock and roll bands in the fifties, influenced Nick heavily in his formative years. Meanwhile, his mother, a gifted singer, instilled the importance of singing and harmony in his life.
In high school, he joined his first band and began performing at school functions and even a few paying gigs outside of school. As his interest in music and the guitar grew, he played with bands of quite varying styles. In the 80’s, he played with bands covering new wave and punk songs through country and western and R&B. Bandmates referred to Nick as ‘Mr. Harmony’ because he orchestrated all of the vocal harmonies in the bands he worked with. These varied styles have shaped Nick into a very unique and diverse musician and songwriter.
In 1989 Nick turned his attention to the acoustic guitar to further sharpen his craft and to articulate his songs on a much different level. Now in his second decade as an acoustic musician, he is a veteran of live performance with over 24 years of on stage experience. Through the 90’s Nick focused on acoustic music while listening to and performing as many different styles he could. This diverse learning experience produced a CD of original songs called ‘Big Ol’ Moon’ and contains songs with such varying styles from blues to pure mountain folk.
Today, Nick still performs with the same band he’s worked with for nearly 15 years and with whom is currently working on a new CD. He is also still performing solo shows in support of his own CD and is writing songs for a second solo CD. Nick’s family is very supportive of his career and with their love and support, he continues on with the same energy and enthusiasm he has always had. There is no let up in sight for this driven singer/songwriter, and music will always be a very important part of his existance.
