Profile :: Matt & Steph Davies

Matt & Steph Davies are starting off their marriage as traveling folk musicians and hope to someday add some tap dancing kids to the mix in order to have a full vaudeville act. Since meeting in 2006 in Chicago through the open mic scene, they've been constantly on the move. Mixing their love of traveling and music, they just finished two months on the road traveling all across the country playing in coffeehouses, bars, bookstores, whatever venue would house their music for an evening.
Though married, they do play separate sets. Matt's music is heavily influenced by those who have come before him, he pays tribute to old blues and folk with a studied approach to guitar and he also accompanies himself on the harmonica. His songs range from political and social commentary to traditional love songs and his voice can range from soft and melodic to bold and loud so as to suit all forms.
Steph takes a simpler, more bare bones approach to guitar, letting her voice do all the work. The guitar acts as a driving force to her soft, velvety voice. Her songs, mostly autobiographical in nature, have a story telling nature to them and often that story is about love. At times they will join eachother for a song or two and their two very different approaches to music come together quite nicely.
